What impressed me most about the Cryptex was the quality of the materials and the craftsmanship that went into producing this work of art. Seeing photos alone doesn't do these things justice--there's a real heft to them with solid brass end-caps and real wood that you can't appreciate until you feel one in your own hands. Hand-crafted, individually numbered and signed by the artist, the box looks like it belongs in a gallery.
The Cryptex is more than just a work of art, however. As a "security box" it's a fully-functional portable safe, and the artist was eager to innovate by adding a number of "false combinations" that make trial-and-error cracking attempts many times more difficult. For a hand-crafted, personalized work of art, the box is a solidly-built, well-engineered example of practical security technology.
I originally commissioned a Cryptex as a piece of fine art for my office, but quickly discovered its value as a conversation piece and educational tool. The box quickly gets visitors' attention as a curiosity, and the tie-ins to Dan Brown's best-selling book The DaVinci Code make the device instantly familiar to many people. It's a great visual aid for teachers and lecturers, particularly in the fields of mathematics and cryptography, and has survived months of handling by students and colleagues with just a bit of polishing required to keep it looking like new.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for helping to make this past Christmas one of the most memorable on record. From the moment I first talked to you on the telephone regarding your custom crafted Cryptexes, I knew things had potential to be grand…but you certainly exceeded my expectations.
I was first struck by your willingness to custom design this box with me over the phone. The fact that you were eager to spend time with me covering every detail of the design, to ensure we had the order perfect, really helped set my mind at ease. Then, your ability to hand craft such a magnificent piece of artwork in time to deliver it before Christmas was simply astounding. On top of that, the sheer level of customization you were able to provide really helped create a 'one of a kind' piece of artwork. I am so pleased with the level of quality and craftsmanship that I am singing your praises to anyone that will listen. My entire family was intrigued with the box and everyone who sees it declares its beauty.
I am enclosing a video clip containing actual Christmas day footage of my wife taking the Cryptex out of the box. I created a scavenger hunt for her and wrapped the final clue around the Cryptex inside a gift box. Her task was to solve all the clues, then decipher the final clue to gain access to the box itself. Inside the box I placed a small gold 'key' for her charm bracelet. She loved every minute of the day. She has placed the box in a location of prominence in our home so that everyone who comes in can behold the box and hear the story of her magical Christmas; a Christmas you made possible.
It is really quite difficult for me to explain just what a wonderful day you helped to create. You are truly a master of your craft and I wish you all the luck marketing your art. Again, the level of quality and attention to detail exceeded my wildest imagination. Just opened the package at home - it's gorgeous! I love the feel of it - it's really heavy and looks both robust and elegant at the same time. I'm extremely pleased with the result - I can't wait till Thursday. The box was easy to open, and the tickets easily fit as well, so the entire present is prepared and all. Yes, very good - the box looks very well balanced, and I see why you liked the Maltese cross motive - it goes very well on the end caps. It's a very funny sensation to open a Cryptex for the first time. I can imagine how Robert Langdon felt ;-)).

Well, I'm the proud owner of Cryptex 096, and from what I know the first of its kind with 2-octave standard musical pitches on the code rings. The first thing I was taken by was the weight - I knew it would have some heft, but this thing is heavy (or perhaps it would be better if I said it has 'gravitas'). The pitches and range numbers look fantastic, the wood and brass both beautiful. Thanks very much for the stand - I'm hoping at one point to order either a more elaborate stand or custom box.
My hopes and expectations were not only met, but they were exceeded. I feel like we've gotten something special here, and knowing it was the first of its kind is just another layer of gratification.

Wonderful finishing touch with the string drawn bag. When picking up the box in its velvet bag, the weight of expectation was finally over. I could tell that something special was inside. Upon removing the bag I was delighted. Hats off Mr. Nevins. Your hand crafted Cryptex is wonderful - its instant feel, its weight and balance -simply beautiful. Turning the rings to spell out the password was almost like as if the box was mine, meant for me. Once the letters were aligned, it slides open with ease. Seeing the beautiful engraving on the inner tube gave me thought of how my wife will hopefully feel when opening it - rewarded.
Justin, I must say that I admire you for your craft. If your product is a reflection of you, then you are a gentleman. The lads in work, who share the room with me, we're equally impressed. It certainly got its just applause. I am very happy Justin. Thank you.

It’s a fabulous piece of artwork - bigger and heavier than I expected as well, but it looks absolutely fantastic. The white marble/brass combination is wonderful. The birthday present went down exceptionally well. She is absolutely delighted with the box. I have to say also, that we had friends here at the time (all 4 of us have read Da Vinci code and are fans) and the reaction when it was opened was simply "WOW!” I hadn't seen it for 24 hours either since wrapping it and that goes for me too.
